Porn hijack: X-rated clips aired at Rajiv Chowk Delhi Metro station
One of the largest and busiest interchange stations on the 190-km Delhi Metro network came to a standstill on April 9, when one of the giant LED screen meant to broadcast commercials and Delhi metro ads started streaming porn clips from pornhub that left its commuters embarrassed and shell-shocked.
Reportedly, a string of videos of the bizarre incident has gone viral since then on social media, which shows the porn clips being played uninterrupted for several minutes at the bustling Rajiv Chowk Metro station in Connaught Palace on April 9. The screen, which is seen split into six segments, shows the porn content being played on the bottom right. The viral videos also show commuters walking past with some stopping to look and even capture the content on their mobile phones.
The Rajiv Chowk Metro station in Connaught Palace is a major junction for interchange of lines and sees a huge crowd not only on weekdays but also on weekends with commuters visiting the shopping and recreation hub in Connaught Place.
While the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) claimed that they were unaware of any such incident taking place, it has however begun an internal inquiry.
“From preliminary investigation, it has been established that the incident took place on April 9 around 5 pm. The Smart LED TV system was under commissioning and Wi-Fi port was accessible. Prima facie, as per CCTV footage, three men ran a porn clip through their mobile on this TV. Attempts are being made to identify these men and the CCTV footage is being examined,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
The LED screen in question was under commissioning and testing by a private contractor. “This sort of interference with the system will not be possible in the future once software is programmed and centrally controlled. In the interim, during the commissioning process, the contractor will be advised to ensure password protection,” Dayal added.
According to Delhi Metro officials, there are five such LED screens under commissioning at five stations on Line-2 — Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate. “The objective of these screens is to disseminate information to passengers through various multimedia tools such as photo, video and scroll messages,” an official said.
No formal complaint has been lodged by the Metro yet, said the CISF responsible for security of Metro stations. “The CISF has not received a complaint from any passenger or its personnel on duty at the station. The DMRC is looking into the matter and it has set up an inquiry committee,” said Manjit Singh, CISF public relations officer.
“If the DMRC approaches us after completing their internal probe, we will go ahead with the legal proceedings,” said a senior police officer.
